ACM20110 Cert II in Animal Studies
The perfect launching pad to a great career.
If you’re just starting out on your dream to becoming a vet nurse, our Certificate II in Animal Studies is specifically designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to work as a Veterinary Assistant.
Where other Cert II in Animal Studies courses offer a general animal care course, ours is veterinary nursing focused, so you can get a jump start on your veterinary nursing career.
This course is your stepping-stone to the Cert III in Animal Studies and Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. If you currently don’t work in a veterinary practice, this is the qualification you need to begin your journey. If you obtain work as a veterinary nurse while studying the Cert II, we can transfer your enrolment to the Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing.
Please note: you’ll need to allow time for 20 days of work experience to cover the practical skills needed to complete this course.
The course is delivered entirely by distance education using our online 'Student Portal'. It gives you the flexibility to study as it suits you without having to attend campus.
As 8 out of 10 course subjects are identical to the Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, this course will really give you an edge in the job market and kickstart your veterinary nursing career.
I started studying the Cert II in Animals Studies via the Australian College of Veterinary Nursing (Veterinary Nurse Solutions) in April 2011. I was nervous about studying via correspondence as I was unsure how much support I would get. I needn't have worried as Harrie (my Nurse Educator) has been there for me every step of the way, from filling out the necessary paperwork to apply through till now where we have an open dialogue regarding any issues I may have. The course has been very useful for me in my position and I have been putting into practice what I am learning almost instantly. The presentation of the course has been outstanding; it has been interactive and easy to follow from the start. I would highly recommend this training course to anyone looking to get in to or progress within the animal care sector.

Application criteria
You must:
- have successfully completed Year 10, or equivalent.
- be able to undertake work experience blocks, called ‘Internships’ at a veterinary clinic
- Many students choose to volunteer at animal shelters, RSPCA etc to learn some of the practical skills they need.
Due to the depth of content and workload for this course, if you are still studying at high school, the veterinary nursing stream is not available to you. Please look at our Cert II in Animal Studies with the General Animal Care stream as a suitable alternative. After completing this course you may then look at the Cert III in Animal Studies with a vet nursing focus.
