Training for your Veterinary Nurses
It's amazing how much time and money gets invested into running clinics, a large part of which is training staff.
So alongside our comprehensive courses, we’ve developed some great strategies and tools to ensure your clinic is well supported.
We help make sure your supervising staff members are informed of student progress, as the workplace supervisors are an integral part of the training. We think this is of vital importance when you’re investing thousands of dollars into their education and training.
These tools are available to all clinics with a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or Diploma of Veterinary Nursing student, whether you’re paying for their further education or they are. We understand that, even when students cover their own course fees, your clinic still invests considerable staff time, resources, and money on their training – especially when it comes to practical tasks.
We also offer further support for clinics employing our students. These include:
Customisable agreements between clinics and students when you pay their fees
Ability to transfer the balance of fees to another student if your nurse leaves your employ mid course (for units not yet undertaken only).

Student Administration Portal
Our Student Administration Portal features an easy to use graphical and intuitive interface to make navigating our site easy.
This makes it simple for those of your staff acting as workplace supervisors to monitor student progress and offer assistance where necessary.
We believe in keeping clinics informed of their student’s progress. We think this is a vital element in:
- Helping your clinic run smoothly
- Maximising training opportunities
- Support students throughout their studies.
We provide Workplace Supervisors with their own unique login so they can view up-to-date data on all their veterinary nursing students in the one location.

Monitor Student Progress
We have several tools available to help you monitor your student’s progress. Our ‘Academic Snapshot’ quickly shows you:
- Subject due dates
- Overall subject grades
- How many assignments are required to complete a subject
- Whether your student is on track to finish by the due date
- When they last logged in to submit work.
Both your workplace supervisors and students can access the Academic Snapshot report. This ensures everyone is on the same page when it comes to keeping students on task.
Our Cert IV course is delivered over two years, allowing vet nurses to get up to speed on all the knowledge and skills they require to work proficiently in your clinic.

View Subject Grades & Course Transcripts
Our Student Administration Portal also allows you to:
- View your student’s grades for individual assessments (if you’re paying for their course)
- See an overview of all subjects completed
- Get final transcript grades.

Practical Skills Logs
At the Australian College of Veterinary Nursing, we lead the way in providing less paperwork for our Workplace Supervisors.
As of late 2012, all logging of our practical skills can be completed online.
How it works
Our new system allows Workplace Supervisors to mark off tasks they have demonstrated to the student nurse and lets a student nurse begin logging attempts.
Once your student nurse feels confident in performing the task without assistance, they can request their Workplace Supervisor marks them off as Satisfactory.
If the Supervisor feels the nurse needs more practice at any task, they can easily return the task back to the student for more attempts.
In addition to saving you time (and significant writer’s cramp!), this new system ensures all our students receive training and practicing skills over a larger length of time than could be tracked by traditional paper skills logs.
The result? More highly skilled graduates.
How to enrol your nurses
Enrolment in our courses is easy.
Your nurse simply applies for course admission like any other student. Once they’re accepted into their chosen course, we’ll email their enrolment forms.
Their enrolment form has a section for your clinic details to be entered as the ‘fee-payer.’ This ensures invoices for training are addressed correctly.
You can choose to pay up front or take advantage of our easy instalment plans.
